Female Founder Feature – Kewanta Brooks, Elite Kids TV

Kewanta Brooks is the Founder and CEO of Elite Kids TV.

Tell us about your company. What inspired you to start it?

51% of children are black and brown. But only 23% of children’s content feature diverse characters. Hi, I’m Kewanta Brooks, founder and CEO of Elite Kids TV. When my children were born, I wanted to expose them to content that was engaging, educational, and that reflected their unique needs as black children in this world. Unfortunately, my search came up short. My only option was to create that product myself. My experiences as a classroom educator and parent merged to create Elite Kids TV. We are a subscription comprehensive learning platform enhanced by entertainment and diversity. Or “EdTech with a whole lot of excellence!” They need 21st-century skills that include core subjects, literacy and life skills. At Elite Kids TV, we are developing a 21st-century skills curriculum that combines branded character-led entertainment wrapped in a subscription model that families and educators can love

Who are your cofounders and what makes you a great team?

Our team is made up of minority artists, animators, a film producer, speech pathologist, a language teacher, and curriculum specialists.  Collectively can grow Elite Kids to a multi-million-dollar powerhouse.

How is your company making a difference?

We are a social impact company. Our Elite for Good charity wing is on a mission to empower and support students and momprenuers.

What are some of the challenges you have faced?

I have faced rejection from VCs and access to capital. Therefore, I have decided to crowdfund. Our goal is to raise enough capital to produce our level 1 curriculum.

What is your biggest win?

I was awarded 5 different grants in 2020.

Who is your role model?

There are too many women founders to name. I am especially in awe of the women founders who survived and thrived during the pandemic.

What do you wish you had known before starting your company?

I wish I had known that I do not need to purchase every shiny new course. I need a community and a great team.

What is your CEO superpower?

I am a little “crazy.” Which means I believe I will be successful and change the lives of families and children all over the world.
