Founder Friday Feature: Claire Dixon, CEO, Neuraura

What inspired you to start your company?

With PCOS as a first indication, Neuraura’s vision is to transform the standard of care for complex, chronic health conditions by unlocking personalized bioelectronic medicine.

Who are your cofounders, and what makes you a great team?

My brilliant technical co-founders, Pierre and Colin, have been working on our core micro-electrode technology for more than a decade. Neuraura was formed as a spin-out from the Hotchkiss Brain Institute, a pioneering institution in the field of brain machine interface, and I joined the team when Neuraura graduated from the inaugural cohort of the Creative Destruction Lab Rockies in 2017. Having developed intra-cranial electrodes for recording directly from brain tissue, we re-focused our direction in Q3 2022 on PCOS, one of the most overlooked and underserved women’s health conditions.

How is Neuraura making a difference?

Unlike existing solutions for PCOS, Neuraura’s bioelectronic wearable will tackle both the metabolic and reproductive / menstrual aspects of the condition. Taking the same effect proven to be effective in electroacupuncture but in an accessible, affordable device.

What are some of the challenges you have faced?

The biggest challenge I have faced is overcoming the desire to be liked by everyone, an impossible task for anyone.

What is your biggest win?

Since re-focusing the company in Q3 2022 we have developed functional prototypes of the LoOoP stimulator and single-use electrode patch; we will be moving forward with preliminary clinical testing in Q2 2023.

Who is your role model?

I believe that we should aim to live up to the best version of ourselves; there are many amazing people in my network that inspire me to be the best leader I can be.

What do you wish you had known before starting your company?

I wish I had known how much amazing support is out there if you just ask for help!

What is your CEO superpower?

My superpower is definitely my ability to break big vision into small executable steps.
