Sara Syed is an intern Thinker Tinker. She is majoring in Computer Science and Economics at Brown University.
Can you tell us a little bit about your background?
I have grown up in Philadelphia. I have always loved technology and a large part of my high school mission was to try to get more girls involved in STEM and coding. Now that I am in college, I am really focusing on expanding my skillset and trying to figure out how I can use my love of technology to make an impact on the world one day.
How was your life impacted by COVID-19?
My original summer plans were to study abroad and complete an internship in Australia.
Tell us about the company you are interning for and what have you been working on.
I am working at Thinker-Tinker, a company that focuses on interactive smart learning for children. I have been working on a few different projects, mainly separating my time between dev (learning Unity, a development platform, and preforming user data analytics) and social media.
What are some goals for a future career?
I love school so I know I want to continue into higher education, perhaps at business schools or pursuing a master’s in computer science. Ultimately, I hope to find a career where I can use technology for social good.
Who are your role models/ inspires you? Why?
My mother is my biggest role model. I think she is who I get my love of technology from. She is undoubtedly the hardest working, yet the most compassionate person I know. She has taught me to love learning, always work hard, and to try to help others. As a woman in the tech industry, I have seen from her first hand the difficulties and the triumphs of being in a field that is so male-dominated. Her experience and perseverance have made me want to pursue a career in this field and hopefully create a change.
What do you consider your superpower?
My ability to nap anywhere, anytime 🙂
